West Park Church hosts early Canada Day celebration in London

Canada Day isn't until Monday, but fireworks filled the sky over northwest London Saturday night.

Thousands of people came out to watch the show at West Park Church on Gainsborough Rd.

Colours filled the sky and the sound of explosions echoed for blocks during the ceremony that lasted for about 10 minutes.

But the fireworks were only the grand finale of the pre-Canada Day festivities.

Bouncy castles, barbecues and games ran for a few hours earlier in the evening.

By the end of the night, the ground was coloured with chalk, faces with paint and the sky with glittering explosions.

"Only in London west can you get a happy Canada day (Friday) and you get it in two days again," said member of parliament Ed Holder addressing the crowd.

Parents and kids alike were thrilled with the start to the weekend.

"It was wonderful, they just said it was their best day ever," said Karissa Penfound, who brought her two young children Marlie and Kyran.
